Rhed Pixel is one of those active companies, that do not mind giving away excellent, free advice. Over at the dv.com website (which also has useful infos for people shooting other formats) Richard Harrington contributes regularly with in-depth information.
At Photoshop for Video, you find some good tutorials on, well, you know.
Amongst the many goodies, there is a collection of websites where you can download pictures that are in the public domain.
Oh, and if you need archive footage, the Prelinger Archive often has very useful source material. Not full SD resolution, but with a bit of tweaking you get usable results.
