Found a simple, straight-forward online calculator that helps you in figuring out how much storage space you need for a R3D (the Red camera codec) project.
1 hour at 25 fps in 16:9 takes about 115 gigs.

Sprayoff, not surprisingly a Munich-based company, builds light-weight rain deflectors. Their design is so small, that you can push it - just like a filter - into the front tray of a matte box. Power comes from the camera, so quite a speedy set up. Just over 300 gr.

Found a great paper by Canon on lens theory, which also explains the common terminology used in lens construction. The paper also includes an extensive collection of graphs showing the optical resolution of all Canon lenses, both wide open and at F8.
